Baines Camp, operated by Sanctuary Retreats, is located on the Boro River to the west of Chief’s Island and the Moremi Game Reserve in the Okavango Delta. Baines Camp comprises 5 suites set on elevated platforms and featuring wooden decks providing expansive views over the Boro River on of the major rivers of the Okavango Delta.
The luxurious suites feature a bedroom, en-suite bathroom and viewing deck. A unique feature are the mobile four-poster bed giving guests the opportunity to sleep under the stars. The public areas at Baines Camp include an oversized deck for outdoor dining and with views over the permanent water of the lagoon as well as a swimming pool with 2 thatched shelters on either side.
Baines Camp is situated in a superb game viewing area and game drives are conducted in 4 X 4 vehicles and early morning and late afternoon or as otherwise requested (subject to availability). Due to Baines Camp being situated on a private concession, night drives are available and are usually combined with the afternoon activity. Walking Safaris are conducted within the concession. Other activities at Baines Camp include mokoro (canoe) safaris, allowing guests to explore the waterways.
Additional activities at Baines Camp include elephant interaction and helicopter flights. The elephants, adopted by Sandi and Doug Groves, provide guests at Baines Camp the opportunity to go walking in the bush with the semi-habituated elephants. This gives the opportunity to see elephants up close, foraging and wallowing in the lagoons.
Scenic helicopter flights take guests at Baines Camp to the west of the game drive routes and towards the permanent delta, areas unreachable by vehicle or boat. There is the option to remove the doors being removed for unrestricted photographic opportunities. This is always done with the greatest consideration to guest safety. These trips show the enormity of the Okavango delta as well as the sheer number and variety of animal species of the Okavango Delta region. These trips are 30, 45 or 60 minutes and conducted in a one turbine Bell Jetranger helicopter with 4 seats and offered on a year round basis.
