Amber River Camp
Private Concession, Southern Okavango Delta, NG32
Amber River Camp is the sister camp to Camp Maru and will have the same tented, classic style and atmosphere. Amber River Camp will be situated 30 minutes by mokoro from Camp Maru and will open in 2020. Like Camp Maru, Amber River Camp will have only six tents for an exclusive, intimate experience. Natural luxury is the byword at Amber River Camp.
Amber River Camp is situated in NG32, a community concession in the very south of the Delta. It offers year-round water and land activities in a game-rich area of varied ecosystems and vegetation. Riverine forests, open grasslands, acacia and wild sage and waterways dotted with small islands and palms are all landscapes waiting to be explored within reach of Amber River Camp.
The mix of dryer floodplains and wetlands results in a wide range of game sightings. Plains game such as giraffe, zebra, warthog and a range of antelope including impala, tsessebe and reedbuck are likely sightings. Sable, roan and sitatunga are not. Elephant herds are seen when the dry season is ending and lone elephants at other times. Lion in good numbers, leopard and cheetah frequent the concession. Birdlife exhibits a rich mix of shallow water birds such as waders and the plains support quelia, shrikes, lilac breasted rollers and francolin, guinea fowl and even ostrich as well as being a good area for raptors such as bataleurs. Bird watching enthusiasts will find the summer months December to March particularly good.
The tents are generously sized and will incorporate Okavango Hidden Gems’ unique innovation of temperature regulating tent ceilings. Experience the pristine and unspoilt biosphere of the unique Okavango Delta through the lens of the stylish quality of a bygone safari era.
