Chitabe Lediba

Chitabe Concession, southern Okavango Delta

Chitabe Lediba is a smaller version of the main Chitabe Camp.  Chitabe Lediba is built a few hundred metres from the main camp, on the other side of the same island.  The same style of tents and furniture as the main camp is used and game drives take place in the same area as Chitabe’s guests, so the viewing experience is identical.  Chitabe Lediba is an intimate camp which is ideal for small groups and families.

A dining area, lounge and pool have great views over the surrounding floodplains and a small waterhole, where game comes to drink during the day.  Chitabe Lediba has a small curio shop selling safari clothing and traditional Okavango crafts and baskets made by the local staff. Chitabe Lediba Camp has 220v generator powered electricity.

Chitabe Lediba consists of five spacious and luxuriously appointed Meru-style tents that have en-suite facilities.  Each room also has an outdoor shower, which overlooks the floodplain.  The two family units have adjoining bedrooms and en-suite bathrooms.  All five spacious tents are built on raised decks.

Morning and afternoon game drives explore the Chitabe concession.  The evening game drive returns to camp after dark so that guests have the opportunity of spotting the shyer nocturnal animals such as genet, civet, serval, porcupine and possibly aardwolf.  Wildlife seen on game drives include elephant, buffalo, lion, leopard and cheetah.  Wild dog are also sometimes found in the area.  Guests should also see zebra, tsessebe, giraffe, kudu and impala.  Two hides can be used as a “sleep out” experience as well as a game viewing platform during the day.

Chitabe Camp - Cheetah

Activities at the camp itself are strictly land based, with sightings of buffalo, elephant, leopard, lion and frequent sightings of African wild dog. The area is particularly known for its African wild dogs sightings, and recorded in the excellent book on wild dogs ‘Running Wild’. Lying within the Botswana Wild Dog Research Project’s research area, guests at Chitabe Camp are almost certain to see these fascinating animals. Game drives take place both day and night. Walking safaris allow guests to really feel, smell and touch Africa and are led by experienced guides.

Diverse Habitat

This concession borders the Moremi Game Reserve in the north and the east while the Santantadibe River and the Gomoti Channel are its western and eastern boundaries respectively. Even though it is very flat and made up of homogeneous Kalahari sand, Chitabe Concession has large variations in habitat patterns over relatively small distances.
