Kala Camp

Set in the picturesque permanent swamps of the northern Okavango, Kala Camp offers a classic water safari experience at any time of year. Opening in May 2022, Kala Camp is one of the newest safari camps in the Okavango, and sure to be as popular as its sister camp Setari, which is located nearby. Kala is an intimate camp with just 6 tents and a rustic chic style.

Following in the footsteps of Setari Camp, Kala Camp is built out of a wealth of experience and firsthand knowledge of how to run an amazing operation with lots of personalized service.

Kala Camp will be a small, rustic and exclusive camp comprised of six en-suite tents raised on wooden platforms.  The décor will fall along the lines of boho chic, surrounding you with earth tones and décor inspired by the natural surroundings. This simple yet charming and chic camp will also have a swimming pool as well as a boma with an open aired fire pit. The camp is set on raised wooden platforms offering stunning views of pretty palm islands.

Kala Camp is located in the southern reaches of the Jedibe Concession, NG24, at the base of the panhandle, just 6km from Setari Camp and Treehouse. This area of the Okavango Delta is defined by the network of deep-water channels, lagoons and stunning islands. The landscape offers quintessential Okavango scenes. Importantly this is permanent swamp – an area of the Okavango which boasts year round water regardless of the flood levels and so Kala Camp is a  fantastic choice for those looking for a water safari at any time of year.

Like most water camps, the focus at Kala Camp is on the extraordinary Okavango landscapes – the flora and fauna. This is not big game territory. Instead this is a chance to slow down and appreciate this extraordinary landscape. Explore lovely papyrus lined water channels by boat and enjoy a spot of fishing, or glide peacefully across floodplains in a mokoro (traditional dug-out canoe) and explore the palm islands on foot with an expert led walking safari. The birding opportunities are excellent.

Activities at Kala Camp will be walking, mokoros and seasonal boating year round.  Due to the lack of large tracts of land there are no game drives offered here. The focus is not on large animal sightings but rather on water-based birding and taking in the beautiful landscape.
