Little known Mashatu Lodge, in the Tuli enclave of Eastern Botswana, offers some of the best year round game viewing in Southern Africa. Stunning scenery, plentiful game, remarkable predator numbers and a fantastic range of unique safari activities- Mashatu is fast attracting the attention it deserves. And with direct flights three times a week between Maun and Mashatu, it has never been easier to combine the Okavango and Mashatu.

Mashatu Lodge consists of 14 stylish suites overlooking one of the precious reserve waterholes. Each suite comprises of a large bedroom area with double bed as well as a single bed and a lounge area with day bed, offering plenty of space and comfort for all. Spacious ensuite bathrooms with bath and shower have a separate WC. Importantly each room has air conditioning, a rare thing in Botswana and much appreciated in the hottest months.

A generously-sized swimming pool offers the perfect place to enjoy siesta time. Activities focus on 4×4 guided game drives in vehicles with guide and tracker and a visit to the Hide is highly recommended. The “Room of Discovery” museum provides an entertaining and educational experience for all ages.

As well as the traditional 4×4 game drives, a full range of additional adventure activities can be arranged including horseback riding, walking safaris and mountain bike safaris, though advance booking essential and are at an additional cost.

Mashatu stands out for its incredible biodiversity, diverse terrain, rich vegetation and ecosystems which provide habitats for a wide-ranging and dynamic collection of wildlife. It is also worth noting there many important archaeological and paleontological found here.

It is no wonder it is called the Land of Giants. With striking rocky outcrops and plentiful groves of the enchanting Baobabs as the backdrop to Africa’s largest private reserve Elephant population the name is fitting. Add to that the world’s largest antelope, the world’s largest bird, the world’s tallest mammal, Africa’s heaviest flying bird, Africa’s “King of the Jungle”, the world’s fastest land mammal and one of Africa’s rarest predators, the African Wild Dog. Cat sightings are staggering. Birding enthusiasts will be happy in the huge varietyand numbers of different species– particularly during the summer migratory months of November-April – with over 350 species in residence. However, Mashatu delights all year round, every season enjoying distinct differences and specialities.

Getting to Mashatu Lodge has never been easier with direct flights between Mashatu and Maun, Joburg and Mala Mala – offering the opportunity to combine the Okavango as well as Kruger for a spectacular safari experience. There is a small airstrip in the Reserve complete with immigration and customs facilities, so guests can easily fly in from South Africa and do all formalities on site without the hassles and queues found in larger airports. By road, most visitors come in via South Africa’s Pont Drift border. This is a short 2 hour journey to the Reserve.
