Okavango Spirit

Explore the upper reaches of the Okavango panhandle in your own private houseboat- ideal for friends and families looking for a unique and peaceful Okavango experience. The Okavango Spirit is a smart, newly refurbished houseboat with seven en-suite cabins and spacious decks offering wonderful views of the Okavango. Booked as part of a 2 or 3 night itinerary – guests can explore the waterways and islands of the Delta, fish, visit Tsodilo Hills and do game drives across the border in Namibia.

Perfect for those looking for a difference Okavango experience, the Okavango Spirit houseboat offers a chance to slow down and enjoy the beautiful panhandle environment which few reach. This is not big game country, and while there are plenty of hippos and crocs and superb birding this is not a substitute for a safari. We recommend combining a houseboat stay with a traditional safari for a full Okavango experience.

Each of the seven cabins on Okavango Spirit are set on the lower deck and feature sliding doors and a private viewing deck, perfect for enjoying the peace and tranquillity of the Okavango Delta between activities. There are 4 double cabins and 3 twin cabins. Each cabins has a fan and shower and is well furnished. The upper deck has a 3m high ceiling enhancing the wonderful views and features a spacious dining area, small lounge, an pen-plan kitchen and well stocked bar as well as a sundeck ideal for sunrise and sunset. The rate is fully inclusive.

A houseboat experience on the panhandle offers the chance to see another side of the Okavango. A glimpse of traditional Okavango life, passing fisherman in their mokoros and farmers on the banks as you cruise down the river. Explore the winding waterways by tender boat and walk the remote islands. Fishing is very good up here and offered on a catch and release basis.

A highlight is surely a visit to Tsodilo Hills. These sacred hills are of huge cultural importance in Botswana and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, one of the worlds largest concentrations of ancient rock art in the world.

For those staying three nights there is the chance to do a morning game drive in Bwabwata National Park, just across the border in Namibia.

The Okavango Spirit is based just outside Shakawe, on the northern reaches of the Okavango panhandle, just below the border with Namibia. The houseboat is available on an exclusive basis only – ideal for larger groups of friends or families.

It is worth noting that while there is electricity on board, but no power sockets in the rooms. Instead battery run charging points are available on the main deck. There is wifi on board.

Guest will reach the Okavango Spirit by road transfer (approx. 6 hours) or a short light aircraft to Shakawe where to boat is moored. Transfers from Livingstone and Kasane via Caprivi Strip can also be arranged.
