The latest edition to the Great Plains portfolio, Peperre Island Camp is due to open in late 2020. Set deep in the beautiful waterways of the Northern Okavango, bordering the Duba concession, Peperre Island Camp aims to offer a more tranquil safari, with quintessential Okavango water activities such as mokoro rides and boating. Promising the same excellent safari standards delivered by their other famous camps we are very excited about this latest camp.
Peperre Island Camp is sure to follow the same beautiful style of all the Great Plains camps, with elegant but understated luxury, authentic and tasteful décor and excellent service. Peperre Island Camp is designed to complement at stay at Great Plain’s other luxury camps such as Selinda Camp and Duba Plains Camp, offering a slower pace and a chance to enjoy the aquatic beauty of the Okavango.
Given the location deep amongst the glistening waterways of the Okavango activities here will be mainly water-based with boating, mekoro and canoes. Continuing with the slow safari style, walking will also be offered on the islands, including Paradise Island on the famous Duba Plains concession.
Artists impressions of the new camp show the designers have taken inspiration from the weave of the local Ba Yei people’s fishing baskets. Expanding on this theme- each of the rooms will be sheltered by two huge interconnecting bamboo style baskets as roofs, one section for the bedroom and another for the ensuite bathroom. The rooms will be built on raised decks, connected by high walkways, offering wonderful views of the Okavango. The main area of Peperre Island Camp will also be set on a large elevated deck, below a bamboo, thatch and canvas peaked house- with an almost Indonesian island feel.
As with all Great Plains properties we expect the same wonderful attention to detail both in design and experience. Further details will follow when available.
