Magnifying the astounding beauty of the mighty Zambezi River is the incredibly stylish and luxurious Thorntree River Lodge. Set on the banks of the river within Mosi-Oa-Tunya National Park, this beautiful safari camp offers a serene and spoiling base from which to visit Victoria Falls. An abundance of enticing activities are available from rhino tracking to canoeing, fishing, boat safaris and many other adrenaline activities associated with the falls.

Thorntree River Lodge lies just 30 minutes from Victoria Falls yet it is a haven of peace, surrounded by the African wilderness. It is a perfect spot to start or end your safari – maintaining the essence of safari from within its base in the national park, and yet offering easy access to all the activities associated with Victoria Falls.

Thorntree River Lodge has just ten luxury contemporary suites, 8 standard suites and 2 family suites. All with stunning views and spacious private decks with plunge pools. Children of all ages are welcomed, and the in-house Ngwana Club caters well for young nature lovers – providing a whole host of educational and fun activities for youngsters.

Designed to complement its surroundings, Thorntree River Lodge has wooden decks encompassing the trees and is built right up to the banks of the mighty Zambezi. Two large tents with stone walls at the back and frameless glass stacking doors to the front, lead out onto an expansive deck overlooking the river. The most appealing feature of the Lodge is undoubtedly the wooden decks floating serenely on the waters’ edge bringing together river and land and creating an awe-inspiring romantic ambience that demands attention .A sunken boma, perfect for fine African cuisine dining experiences and an exquisite infinity pool with several sun loungers settled in shallow water around it contribute to this idyllic setting.

An array of comfortable chairs, sofas and beanbags together with a central fireplace and bar area make up the lounge area while rustic light hangings reach down from the reed-lined ceiling. An outside deck area offers comfortable seating and a wine cellar and separate spa, and gym are built in two adjoining structures which are designed to look like traditional Zambian Lozi huts imitating a traditional Zambian village.

Each elegantly decorated and air -conditioned suite features a private wooden deck and solid walls with a tented type roof constructed in such a way as to have minimum impact on the surrounding natural eco-systems. Teak wood doors and the use of materials such as copper and light wood add to the naturalistic feel of the rooms. Blue and white fabrics enhance the feeling of serenity. Two family units have inter-leading passageways that join the two bedrooms – ideal for families with young children as this lodge is unfenced and wild animals do wander into the camp especially at nighttime.

Kettles, coffee plungers, a bar fridge stocked with water, beers and soft drinks, and a drinks trolley with a bottle of wine, Amarula liquor and whisky are standard features in each room.

A vast array of activities and adventures are offered at Thorntree River Lodge with the world-renowned majestic Victoria Falls – a UNESCO World Heritage Site, just 20 minutes away.

Popular activities include guided walking safaris, game drives, canoeing, catch and release fishing and boat cruises on a secluded section of the Zambezi River all led by our qualified and passionate guides.

Cultural visits to Livingstone’s Maunga community where, through partnerships with African Bush Camps, upliftment programmes and school-based conservation clubs are implemented to encourage sustainable tourism.

Discover majestic wildlife at every turn while on safari in Mosi-Oa-Tunya National Park; expect sightings of species such as White rhino, zebra, monkeys, giraffe, sable, warthog, buffalo, crocodiles and a variety of bird species.

During your stay at Thorntree River Lodge, you will have the remarkable experience of being able to track white rhino on foot in the company of professional rangers, the activity involves a short drive into the park to meet up with the rangers.
