Vumbura Plains Camp

Vumbura Plains Camp is premier Okavango camp with a stylish contemporary design. The 14 luxurious stilted rooms are divided into two camps and connected by wooden walkways. Panoramic views of the floodplains from the expansive lounge area are breath-taking. An exciting array of wildlife sightings emphasises the variety and density of the animal species here. High levels of service, delicious meals and deluxe surroundings provide guests with safari experiences guaranteed to leave lasting memories

The two camps of Vumbura Plains Camp, North and South, are similar but not identical, certainly they are equally stylish and spoiling in experience. Both offer the same superb game viewing experience and year round land and water activities. Each of the camps has a sumptuous raised lounge, dining and bar area which afford magnificent views across the iconic Okavango Delta along with an expansive deck protruding into the floodplains – the perfect setting for stargazing or storytelling around the welcoming campfire.

The rooms are among the largest and most luxurious in Botswana- with wonderfully spacious open plan sleeping and living areas, with both an indoor and outdoor shower and an en-suite bathroom. Each room contains a minibar fridge, tea and coffee making facilities, a ceiling fan and a small safe within which useful items such as binoculars, umbrellas and mosquito repellent are provided. Additionally, the rooms exhibit a private plunge pool and relaxing ‘sala’ from where the passing wildlife can be appreciated while one indulges in a soothing massage.

Located in the northern reaches of the Okavango Delta and sharing the private 90 000 hectare Kwedi Concession with its sister camp, Little Vumbura, Vumbura Plains is surrounded by grassland referred to locally as ‘melapo’. These grasslands are flooded annually by the waters of the Okavango and offer spectacular seasonal game viewing which can be attributed to the variety of vegetation found here. Discover open floodplains, dense mopane woodland, permanent swamplands and waterways as well as island habitats created by the combined effect of local summer rains and the annual winter floodwaters of the Okavango Delta.

Wildlife species regularly seen include elephant, giraffe, impala, sable antelope, kudu, zebra, common waterbuck and reedbuck, tsessebe, wildebeest, red lechwe and Cape buffalo. Possible predator encounters in this vicinity include the African wild dog, several resident prides of lion, as well as leopard, cheetah and African wildcat. The waterways are home to Hippo and crocodile. Game drives within the concession are incredibly productive and guests often see a range of wildlife even on their drive from airstrip to Vumbura Plains Camp itself.

For those staying between April and September, Hot Air Balloon safaris over the Okavango Delta are available to guests at Vumbura Plains Camp, at an additional cost. Note that to get to the launch site guests will need to take a helicopter from Vumbura Plains Camp to the hot air balloon site, a flight of about 10 minutes.
