A guide to the Okavango Delta concessionsRead More
With the heart of the Okavango Delta – the Moremi Game Reserve – surrounded by vast wildlife concessions, the Okavango Delta is one of Africa’s great game preserves.
An oasis within the Kalahari Desert, the Okavango Delta is one of the great wildlife refuges of Africa. The pulsing nature of the wetland leads to strikingly different landscapes with both permanent and seasonal delta environments.
Like much of northern Botswana, the area around the Moremi Game Reserve is divided into vast private concessions. These concessions present an unspoiled Africa to the visitor, with diverse activities on offer. Traditionally hunting concessions, these evolved into the photographic, hunting and mixed use concessions of the 1980s and 90s and today activities are solely photographic.
Safaris within these concessions allow for more flexibility than those within the Moremi Game Reserve with walking, mokoro and night game drives routinely offered. Specialist activities such as riding safaris and elephant back safaris are also offered within these concessions. Read our guide to understanding the difference between a safari on a private concession or in the Moremi Game Reserve for more details.
Concessions are granted by lease and are managed by safari outfitters. Strict environmental standards form part of these leases, ensuring a pristine safari environment.
