Balloon Safaris

Only recently introduced to the Okavango Delta balloon safaris are operated in the northern concessions of the delta. These concession provide the most appropriate environment for these most iconic safaris

Providing iconic images of Africa, balloon safaris have only recently been introduced to the delta and offer a unique way of seeing this pristine wilderness from the air. Only operational during part of the year, from April to the end of September, these are highly specialised safaris operating from Wilderness Safaris’ Vumbura Plains and Little Vumbura camps.

Flights are conducted in the early morning to take advantage of the still air, and the activity typically starts with a game drive to the launch site where coffee is served as you watch the balloon being inflated. The flight of approximately 45 minutes provides breathtaking views of the delta and on landing celebratory champagne is served before you return to camp on a game drive. The entire experience takes approximately four hours.
