Sable Alley

Sable Alley is in the 200,000 hectare Khwai Private Reserve concession

Having opened in April 2017 Sable Alley is situated in the Khwai Concession within a 200,000 hectare private wildlife reserve bordering the Moremi Game Reserve. The concession is operated as a joint venture partnership with the Khwai Community Trust ensuring that local people benefit from tourism whilst protecting this sensitive environment.

The Khwai Private Reserve provides access to diverse habitat on the northern edge of the Okavango Delta. This habitat includes water, flood plains, riparian woodlands and mopane woodland and supports healthy populations of plains game as well as predators including lion, leopard and wild dog. Elephants occur in abundance and there are sighting of the sable antelope for which camp is named.

The camp has incredible vistas, overlooking a lagoon and onward over vast flood plains, and comprises a recently refurbished main area with lounge, bar, fire pit and swimming pool. The ten twin and two family tents raised to provide in comparable views over the floodplains. All are en-suite with private verandas and both indoor and outdoor showers. Tents are solar powered.

Game activities include both morning and afternoon game drives, within the concession as well as along the Khwai River, mokoro and walking safaris. Night drives provide a glimpse into the lives of nocturnal species such as leopards, porcupines and honey badgers. The camp’s outfitter, Natural Selections operate innovative Khwai Skybeds overlooking a waterhole which can be combined with Sable Alley. Boating is offered when water levels permit.

Khwai Skybeds are a unique concept providing an excellent way to experience the African bush from four meter high semi-thatched hides, allowing guests the opportunity to sleep under the stars with just a mosquito net separating them from the wild.

Activities include both morning and afternoon game drives which include sun-downers and game walks. Species frequently seen include lion, leopard, wild dog, kudu, waterbuck, red lechwe, eland, impala, roan, buffalo and warthog.
