7 Night Fly Me Around Botswana

This week long ‘Fly Me Around Botswana’ is a special itinerary combining the &Beyond properties in the Okavango, one of the leading luxury safari operators. It offers reduced rates by combining their top luxury camps and delivers an impressive and spoiling safari experience. Staying at three stylish camps – Xaranna, Nxabega and Sandibe – each set in different environments, offers a myriad of wildlife spectacles. Game viewing is good year round at these camps, water activities are seasonal. These camps have some of the highest levels of guiding and camp service in Botswana, with superb dining too.

Each of the camps is set in a private concession offering an exclusive safari experience. Elegant Xaranna Camp is located in the scenic Ranns concession in the south west of the Okavango. Nxabega camp lies slightly north, in the pretty Pom Pom concession well known for the varied habitats and game viewing. Situation in the far south east, Sandibe Camp is one of the most striking and luxurious in Botswana. Its design takes inspiration from the rare pangolin and is sure to end your safari on a high.

Expect warm African hospitality and excellent wildlife viewing with a vast array of exciting activities. Opening into a seasonal lagoon, Xaranna is the first camp on this itinerary, its elegant décor inspired by the feminine shades of the waterlily found here. With an exclusive 25 000hectare concession, game viewing is private and undisturbed with professional guides careful to leave the lightest human footprint. Xaranna offers remote game drives extending into the late afternoon, mokoro excursions (if water levels allow) and guided walks are a highlight.

Flying in a North Westerly direction, arrive at Nxabega Okavango Tented Camp. Translated as ’Place of the Giraffe’’, this elegant, intimate luxury camp is overshadowed by majestic ebony trees and offers fantastic land and water photographic opportunities. Nxabega specializes in 4×4 game drives in open vehicles and seasonal Mokoro trips navigating reed-lined water channels. Should water levels allow, motorised boating excursions are possible. Get up close and personal to the wilderness on professionally guided bush walks.

Heading eastwards, spend two nights at the superb pangolin inspired Sandibe Lodge with its exclusive traversing rights – embarking on a schedule of guided walks, thrilling tracking experiences, scenic helicopter flight and game drives in customized safari vehicles.

Day 1 and 2 - Xaranna Okavango Delta Camp

On arrival in Maun, Botswana you will be met by a representative who will assist you with your connection onto a light charter flight to andBeyond’s Xaranna Camp - a flight of about 25 minutes. Your guide will be waiting on arrival and will transfer you to your camp, a game drive of approximately 10 minutes and depending on water levels, a 40-minute scenic boat ride. Settle into Xaranna for the next 2 nights.

Welcome drinks are served on arrival followed by a brief introduction to the staff and team after which you will be led to your luxury room to settle in. After some refreshments you will depart for your afternoon activity, perhaps an afternoon game drive, extending into the early evening hours and exploring this beautiful scenic Delta Island and its exclusive 90 500-hectare wildlife concession.

On arrival back at Xaranna Camp for a sumptuous dinner in the open-air boma where candlelit dinners are served beneath the stars.

The next morning you awake early at dawn with your choice of hot drink delivered to your tent, followed by a light breakfast. Then you are off on an early morning game drive or mokoro trip (Water level dependent)-along some of the narrow reed-lined channels surrounding camp. Watch out for spectacular birdlife and smaller creatures such as the painted reed frogs that balance cautiously on the ends of the reed stalks. Game drives offer the chance to track the events from the nocturnal hunting the night before. Experience the Delta on foot, free from the constraints of roads and vehicles and see this wilderness through the eyes of your knowledgeable interpretive guide.

A delicious brunch awaits you on your return to camp after which one can indulge in a couple of hours resting or relaxing by your private plunge pool before you set off on your afternoon drive or boat safari. Sundowner drinks will be served by your guide while you are on your drive or boat ride, returning as it gets dark to a roaring fire and dinner. Your early morning activity for tomorrow will be confirmed by your guide during dinner and before you drift off to sleep in your luxury tent.

Day 3, 4 and 5 - Nxabega Okavango Tented Camp

This morning has an early start once again as you set out for your morning activity. One final exploration of the beautiful Rann’s concession. At a time advised the night before you return to the airstrip for your flight to Nxabega Okavango Tented Camp where you will stay for 3 nights. On arrival your guide will transfer you to camp, a game drive of 15 minutes.

As your guide introduces you to the environment of the Pom Pom concession and current game movements you will discuss your interests and the available activities, together planning how to make the most of your time at Nxabega. The concession lies on the western boundary of the Moremi Game Reserve offering excellent game viewing and superb Okavango scenery.

Activities at Nxabega Okavango Tented Camp focus around exploring the water and wildlife of the Pom Pom Concession with its access to permanent water. Game drives are conducted both in the early morning and late afternoon. Motorboat and mokoro excursions are also offered when water levels are high enough. Scenic helicopter flights are offered at an additional cost.

Setting out in the late afternoon for your drive or boat ride you will stop as the day comes to and end to enjoy sundowners and the nocturnal animals begin to stir. Returning to camp with a spotlight allows one the opportunity to find nocturnal animals such as cats, genets, bush babies and caracals.

Return to Nxabega Camp for a sumptuous dinner in the magnificent open-air boma, set under massive ebony trees and open to the starlit African sky. Your itinerary of suggested activities for the following day is discussed briefly with your guide over dinner.

The next morning, as the sun creeps up over the horizon, enjoy an early morning light breakfast before embarking on an early morning activity. A game drive or a tranquil Mokoro trip exploring the crystal-clear channels of the Delta. Dozens of bird species, frogs and other smaller creatures of the Delta lay waiting to be explored at eye level. Returning to camp in the late morning for brunch and a few hours rest in the heat of the day, before you set out again on your afternoon activity.

The area is characterised by mature mopane woodlands, seasonally flooded grasslands and palm islands where gigantic jackalberry, sausage and wild fig trees grow. Impala, lechwe, zebra, baboons, jackals and giraffe are common here, as are herds of elephant in the dry season. The area supports a large concentration of lechwe and buffalo, while roan and sable antelope roam the open woodlands. Cats follow the herds. The riverine forest is home to prolific birdlife, including the elusive Pel’s fishing owl, and fruit bats are attracted to the abundant fig trees.

The next day follows the same routine, with a chance to explore further into the concession

Day 6 and 7 - Sandibe Okavango Safari Lodge

Today you may have one final activity at Nxabega before setting off for your flight to Sandibe Okavango Delta Lodge for two nights. Flying south east for about 25 minutes to Sandibe where you guide will meet you and transfer you to camp, a game drive of about 45 minutes.
